What are we doing?

It quickly fell apart. The text thread sent asking for prayer over the presidential debate rapidly deteriorated into caustic language and name calling. I didn’t know most of the people – they were not in my contacts – but the exchange emphasized the readiness and depth of division between us. Does anyone talk anymore? Does anyone actually try to hear another point of view, or even support their own, without throwing accusations? We seem to only pass quick judgment on one another and go with the crowd of our own thinking. I’m guilty. And my heart has been calling out my complicity.

The texting gnawed at me with the reminder that silence is consent. So, I replied: “I don’t know most of you on this text thread, still from a place of great love and personal conviction I’d like to share this….while I may experience some of the feelings expressed, I believe it is throwing the stones of blame, the name calling and assumptions from either perspective that continues to divide us. Without a doubt this is unproductive. I am overwhelmed currently by the degree of us / them that we (the general populace we) have divided into and the rhetoric that perpetuates it. Honestly it makes me want to hide away. But I must do my part – whatever that is. I shared the following quote with my family yesterday. May it encourage us all.

Be the most ethical, the most responsible, the most authentic you can be with every breath you take,
because you are cutting a path into tomorrow that others will follow.

Thank you for your love, compassion, and prayer shared for the good of creation. We are after all, in this together.”

I share this with you because, well, speaking it helps hold me accountable. Thank you for being
In this together…
