And there was stillness
Makgati Mokwena, South Africa
Greetings friends! I have been remiss in sharing with you yet every day I think of you. Sometimes because I feel guilty for my inconsistency. But most often because I simply hold you in prayer…sending Holy Energy, the Peace of Christ, Shalom, Love and Light – however you want to name it. We all need it in these days. We need it to offer one another amid all that clamors for our attention and threatens to harden our hearts. I at least must be reminded of what lies beneath all the noise and busyness. So, I share the following from my daily morning practice …
I sit in silence.
And all is not quiet.
A crow caws, a cardinal welcomes the day.
The distant hum of highway traffic drifts through the window.
My ceiling fan gently whirs.
Someone dumping trash in the alley.
I sit still.
And all is not still.
The fan spins, a truck goes by.
The flame of my oil lamp flickers,
Thoughts race through my mind begging for attention.
It is neither still nor silent around me. Yet as I still my body and am silent, I notice my breathing, I wait, I simply am. And what is still and silent emerges from the busy noise around me and meets me where I am. Together we find peace to carry into the movement of the day. I am grateful.
and there was silence in heaven for about half an hour
Revelation 8:1
May you be met today by the Presence that lies beneath.
In this together…
